5.0 out of 5 stars Easy to assemble
Too cold to plant tomatoes but this will make nice addition to patio. I could buy a lot of tomatoes for what I paid for this but I enjoy growing plants so cost is of no consequence. Do not have sunny growing area so this is easy to move around. Will probably buy another one for beansLouis

5.0 out of 5 stars Beautiful quality, will work perfectly for my cucumbers!
I needed something to vertically grow my cucumbers, they haven’t done well on the ground the last few years. This container is perfect! Very sturdy and will allow the plants to grow really high with great support! Highly recommend!

5.0 out of 5 stars Very attractive and holds 9 L of water
This is perfect! I travel a lot so it’s hard to keep up its our plants and I have gone to self watering containers. Most don’t look great, but this Vego garden Tomato Planter Box with Trellis is the exception – it looks great. I have mine in the living room here we get the most sun. It is light weight before you add your dirt and water, and yet it is very sturdy and well made. What I Love :- the water reservoir hold 9 liters so I don’t have to add water often- great for travel and vacations.- the wheels make it simple to move the pot from window to window to get the right amount of sunlight and heat.- the water gauge keeps me posted as to when to add water.- the trellis allow for vine growth; it is made of a very sturdy, thicker metal.- the sage colored pot looks great indoors or outdoors.- the planter is exceptionally well made. This should last many years.- the plastic is really easy to clean.

5.0 out of 5 stars great for deep rooted plants
I absolutely love this planter, it is built sturdily, is very high quality and looks sleek. I love the water reservoir type of planters (I have a few other brands as well) and I find it very convenient. The only thing I have noticed is that these planters always work better for vegetables with deeper large roots, like tomatoes and cucumbers, because the roots always find their way to the bottom to reach the water, but I have trouble growing things on the top surface of the soil, like calendulas or dill, because the very top of the soil always seems dry, so I still have to water from the top if I add any other plants to my tomato planter.Overall this is a really great planter, and the only thing that I could recommend for a small improvement would be a little taller trellis. Very satisfied.

5.0 out of 5 stars Oooh la la!
Finally, this is a great planter! It’s sturdy, beautiful, and it even rolls!I normally plant my tomatoes in beds, but I also do a few determinate kinds in pots. Now tomato season is almost over in Florida, but I will have my new seedlings in August again and meanwhile I will use this pot for peas or something else I can grow in the summer.I must add that the good experience started with the very nice packaging. It looks like everything has been thought and designed to make it special. The only difficulty was in reading the instructions written in white on light brown paper, but the building was pretty straightforward anyway.

5.0 out of 5 stars Durable and well made
Finally, we’ll get to have tomatoes this year. With this sturdy self watering planter box, we can roll it in at night if we need to (we usually lose all our gardening to the deer). The box is very sturdy and I love that it has a water gauge for self watering (my husband has a green thumb but I do not and I need all the help I can get). The trellis is super easy to assemble and all the instructions are super clear on how to set it up and start using. As soon as our tomato starters are ready to go we’ll be all set. My husband does think we’ll need. couple more of these since he thinks only one plant per box will fit, so I foresee us ordering a few more of these in the near future.

5.0 out of 5 stars High quality planter
Packaged well. Easy to assemble by hand, with no tools. It has a water gauge, which is very helpful. It has a self-watering system with a drain tube that can be set to keep different levels of water in the tray bottom, allowing plants a source of water without drowning. The casters are terrific and allow the planter to be easily maneuvered. I have a few planters similar to this and this one is by far the best.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent quality
This self-watering planter with trellis was incredibly easy to assemble, and I’m no mechanical engineer. Assembly took me about 15 minutes. The watering directions are easy to understand. I have not yet planted a tomato plant, but I will be very soon. This is ideal for people with no garden but access to sunlight on either a balcony or patio. Fresh tomatoes can be grown in an apartment with this planter! It is attractive and easy to move due to small wheels on the base. Wheels are removable if you prefer a stationary planter. Very nice product.

Came with easy instructions book. Easy to assemble. Done in under 30 minutes. Strong and sturdy. We are ready for cherry tomatoes we love. Very simple and sturdy planter. I am happy with this.

This planter is easy to use and fill. My plants are actually growing and the only thing I need to do is check the water level gauge and fill if needed. This is so simple to use.

5.0 out of 5 stars Top quality tomato grower!
After searching for some time, I finally found the perfect grower for my organic heirloom tomatoes! This product came very well packaged, was assembled in minutes, and glided out onto the patio with the easy install wheels. The base container is a heavy duty plastic with an insert for soil that drops right into place. The growing cage is adjustable and quickly converted to a choice of 3 different levels, to manage your climbing tomato vines. A unique feature I found with this grower that I didn’t see with other similar products, is the automatic watering system. This is such a convenience for those that travel and can’t always attend to the watering schedule. And the water gauge gives a quick view to levels in the reservoir and when to refill. It is also an attractive way to plant and harvest your own tomatoes, (or veggies or climbing flowers!), as it looks nice on any patio and keeps the deer, bugs, and other invaders away from the sweet and tasty toms. But even better, you can also use it indoors, as it features a water level regulator plug to keep the reservoir from draining. When used outside, just remove the plug so that rain water doesn’t accumulate.I’m looking forward to saving money and enjoying the delicious, healthy and organic tomatoes soon to come with this convenient, quality grower. I will post more photos when the tomatoes come in. Five Star product, highly recommend!

5.0 out of 5 stars Product just as shown!
This is a great planter for a deck or small area, perfect size for a couple of tomato plants. I like the water gauge that lets you know if it is low on water. It was easy to put together and looks great. I would recommend d taping the trellis, though – the pieces want to pop out if it is moved around a lot. Other than that, holds up well and works great.

5.0 out of 5 stars What a fantastic planter!
The Vego garden/Tomato Planter Box with Trellis – that is Self-Watering – and with wheels in sage green is super nice. This planter is extremely sturdy. It is made exceptionally well. It has a feature that allows excess water from rain to drain out of the planter so your plant doesn’t drown. (I’ve had that happen before with other planters.). It has a specific place to water your plant so it doesn’t flood any part of the plant. And it comes with its own rain/water gauge that you’re able to set for your specific plant. It has wheels so you are able to move it around so it can get more or less sun or protect it from wind or other weather conditions. The trellis is adjustable so you can have your plant climb to the height you desire. All these features add up to a super efficient and easy to use planter.Once planting season arrives in PA I’ll be adding more thoughts and a video.

  15. TNCTNC

5.0 out of 5 stars Nicer looking planter for porch or patio
This is a better looking/sturdier planter based on the typical self-watering design. I can’t imagine a full garden of these; it’s more for somewhere where you’d like a sleeker looking planter (porch/patio). I have a regular garden but I wanted to have a plant on my back deck for fun. It’s definitely feels like sturdy metal and thicker plastic. Assembly was easy enough, but I found it was easiest to assemble the “cage” on the planter first, then remove the cage as a whole, and then put in the dirt and plant starts (then re-attach the cage as a whole). It has small wheels that help when moving it. The wheels probably work best on a hard, smooth surface like concrete, but the wheels still help when moving it across an uneven deck surface (still way easier than just sliding a flat bottom container).Overall, it does seem built to last, and looks way better than homemade bucket planters.

5.0 out of 5 stars Exceeded my expectations! Best indoor tomato planter!
Even the box and packaging were super nice! Excellent directions and even videos. Though it was rather simple to put together. Cool wheels and very stout & stable. The trellis/cage is also well made, metal! The planter looks Attractive in the house and there is no risk water leaking or overflowing like a cheap plastic tray under a standard pot would. This planter is awesome!

5.0 out of 5 stars I think I finally found THE tomato planter.
I used to try and save a few dollars by getting cheaper tomato planters but this year I knew I wanted to start early and indoors so I needed a quality planter. This thing is PERFECT. It’s on wheels so you can easily move it to the sunniest spots in your home or yard. The self watering feature is going to save me (and my tomatoes!) and I love that I can build up the supports as the plants grow. I will update with more photos throughout the season. So excited I got this for myself!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Durable and well made. Can’t wait for tomato season!
This planter box comes mostly assembled. Just the trellis needs to be put together and it’s quite easy. It’s still a little cold here to plant but I’ll put a nice patio tomato in it. The water reservoir holds a couple of gallons and it’s got a water level indicator. Taking care of the plant will be super easy. This is a very attractive and well made planter!

  19. E.SwopeE.Swope

4.0 out of 5 stars Small for tomatoes, expensive
The Vego garden Tomato Planter Box with Trellis is an improvement over a nearly identical tomato planter which I got last year, in that the inner bucket is suitable for planting directly in (where the other was pieced together and leaky). It is, however, somewhat smaller than I believed it would be and less than ideal for full sized tomato plants. I have grown tomatoes in planters for years. We have heavy clay soil and poor drainage, so the tomatoes I grow in planters do better than those in ground, even in my raised bed.. though after several years of adding compost, peat and vermiculite, two of them are nearly there. (Note: This is after spending hundreds on soil amendments and potting soil when I first set them up). But, I have grown some beautiful tomatoes in terracotta planters (17-19″ is about ideal). That said, when I read the description of this planter I thought it would work for me, BUT the dimensions of the inside bucket are 11.5 x 11.5 x 11,5, less than ideal. You can grow a full sized tomato in one of these but it will not be happy. The internal dimensions are too small, and there is no air exchange. I will try it, when I have a seedling ready to go in. My Brandywine, which is currently happy, flowering, in a large terracotta planter is going to stay where it is. I had thought about transplanting it, until I realized that the growing space in this planter is very much smaller than the one it is in. How much smaller? The package says that the planter takes 1 cubic foot of soil. The terracotta planter (pictured) takes 2. It is a big difference. Given that I purchased those terracotta pots for roughly 1/5th of what this costs, in the most expensive place on Earth (Hawaii)… note I am saying this, certain that pretty much anyone can purchase the same for less than I did. I bought them at a large Home improvement store, and they were not on sale. In fact, Amazon has some planters this size (though not ceramic) for about $20.The trellis is made with steel rods and plastic connectors. It is pretty sturdy and well put together. There are kits available on Amazon with the connectors to make trellises, a-frames, pretty much anything you can think of (with bamboo rods) which I have used for my tomatoes and cucumbers for several years. But, this is well done, and it will also support bird netting (not included) for those who will be using it outside. There are small snap in wheels on the bottom. It does not roll very well, even empty. They probably work well enough to move it a few feet on a smooth, level surface, but were difficult to roll on our cement driveway. The planter is by and large well done, but the inside dimensions are on the small side for a full sized tomato plant, and I personally think it is very expensive for what it is. Also, if you will be growing inside, get a flourescent or metal halide bulbs. I have tired several led lights and none of them can support a tomato to flowering. They are leggy and not very happy with led lights. At least that is my personal experience. (I tried it when many “solutions” to birds attacking my plants failed, after much effort, and more $ than I want to think about). Tomatoes do a lot better outdoors. This planter can be used indoors or out. It has a water well for those in drier climes. (I am in the tropical rain forest, so… my plants get watered 😉 If you use this on a balcony or lanai, the wheels may come in handy, for finding the best light you can. I would not depend on them to move it a long way. The trellis is solid, but you may want some twist ties, or other connectors. Tomatoes do not vine like morning glory, and will not be wrapping themselves around thew support frame.

5.0 out of 5 stars Actual Self-Watering Design. Not Just Self-Draining Design.
There is one massive difference between the Vego Tomato Planter Box and every other tomato planter box: The Vego Tomato Planter Box has a reservoir that is filled and maintained separately from the soil container. With most “self-watering” containers available, require water to enter through the top layer of soil, bypass the roots, and then enter the reservoir. This creates a couple of issues:1. Soil compaction, making it more difficult for the plant to take root.2. Soil oversaturation, resulting in plant rot.3. Inability to manage the reservoir.Beyond the separately maintained reservoir, Vego Tomato Planter Box continuous to differentiate itself in several ways:1. The base is incredibly stable using the full surface area. You can opt into using the wheels, or just use the base. This means that it will not tip easily.2. The base can be separated from the reservoir if needed, even after adding the soil and plant.3. Light-weight metal hollow tubes, coupled with recycled plastic, make up the trellis. This provides more support for the plant whereas the thin metal bars of traditional planters bend and damage the plant.Overall, a beautiful plannter.KEY ASSEMBLY POINTS…1. If your planter will be exposed to rain remove the drain plug. To access the drain plug, remove the cap on the overflow tube. You’ll find the drain plug hidden.2. The trellis connection points are very snug and require some gentle force to make a secure connection.
